We will quickly translate your Magento 2 into Portuguese Brazil, simply and with great quality.

If you are looking for pt-BR translation for Magento 1.x, click here.

Prerequisites

To begin with, I’ll assume you already have your Magento 2 up and running. If you have not installed it, visit the tutorial with step-by-step installation.

Step 1 – Download the pt-BR package

The best Portuguese-Brazilian translation for Magento 2 on the planet is available for download at github of Mario SAM.

Access the link https://github.com/mariosam/Traducao-PT-BR-Magento-2.x and download the file pt-BR.csv.

Last update: 25/07/2017

Just click in the button [Clone or Download] at the right of screen, and in sequence in [Download ZIP].

Step 2 – Installing the package

This step can be a bit treacherous. Because whenever I installed Magento 2, there is in the project the directory:

<magento2>/vendor/magento/language-pt_br

If your installation has this directory, simply move the pt-BR.csv file into this package.

Case you have a “lite” version installed, probably the directory language-pt_br will not exist. In that case, download the complete package in Mario SAM github, at the link https://github.com/mariosam/Traducao-PT-BR-Magento-2.x-Full.

Yes! Finished the installation. Just put the file in the directory language-pt_br.

Step 3 – Changing the language in the Backend

Now we will access the administrative area of Magento 2, and change the language of the backend.

To start click on your username (in the top right), and go to the option [Account Setting].

In the field [Interface Locale] select the option [Português (Brasil) / Portuguese (Brazil)].

Next, enter your current password to confirm that you are allowed to change the language of the store. Once you’ve done that, just click the button [Save Account] at top right.

As soon as the screen refreshes, you should see the translation working. If not, keep reading to understand what can go wrong.

Step 4 – Changing the language of the Store (Frontend)

Now let’s also change the language of your store, where the themes run. In the left menu go to [Lojas] > [Ajustes > Configuração].

In the guide [Geral > Geral] do you have the option [Localização] with the field [Idioma]. Just select [Português (Brasil)] and click in [Salvar] at top right.

Ready! Your store has been translated.
